What We’re Up To

Bringing theatre to LA

and LA to theatre.

Why we’re here

Black Rabbit Theatre Company was born from two distinct goals:
(1) as artists, to create opportunities for ourselves to do quality and challenging work without having to wait around to get work elsewhere; and
(2) as members of marginalized groups, to build a community of people who work to tell stories that are not often told, from voices who are not often heard.

Seeing yourself represented on stage in stories that have the power to affect entire crowds of strangers is priceless, and underrepresented audiences need better representation. Our efforts are toward accessibility and finding innovative ways to bring people in to discover the magic of theatre for themselves.

  • We’re here to give theatre. That means full-scale productions and pared-down readings, stage plays and musicals, immersive events, variety shows, playwright workshops, and anything else we can think of that makes an audience feel entertained, challenged, enriched, and just good.

  • Los Angeles has one of the largest populations of people who are within the artistic and entertainment industries but who don’t frequent the theatre. What this means to us is that by providing quality productions centered around fresh and inclusive content, we can accomplish two goals:

    (1) introduce an audience to the lasting impact of seeing yourself represented on stage, and the power of seeing live performance tell a story that you can relate to; and

    (2) expanding the capacity of theatre to include a population that accurately reflects the world around us, increasing inclusivity in both our audience and in the stories we tell.

  • BRTC begins and ends with its people. Those who make up the company belong to a number of unique and beautiful communities, and we couldn’t be more proud of that. We’re here to create a space for those who don’t have many offered to them, and to celebrate and reflect the extraordinary strength of diversity and inclusion in the world around us.
